Electric Service Options for 2024

town seal

The Northfield Community Choice Power Supply Program is a municipal aggregation program. According to Massachusetts law (M.G.L. c. 164, § 134), municipal aggregation enables local governments to combine the purchasing power of their residents and businesses in order to provide an alternative electricity supply. Northfield works with several other towns to combine our collective purchasing power for the purposes of aggregation.

For residents of Northfield, the program may be opted into or out of at any time at no cost.

If you opt in, the program only affects the supply portion of your monthly bill. It will not affect the delivery portion. Eversource will continue to deliver your electricity but Northfield, using a competitive bid process, chooses the supplier of the program. The only difference you will see is that Dynegy will be printed under the “Supply Services” section of your monthly bill. You will continue to receive one bill from Eversource

To learn more, to Opt In, or to Opt Out, please visit https://colonialpowergroup.com/Northfield/, or call Colonial Power Group, the Town’s aggregation consultant, at (866) 485-5858 ext. 1.

At the end of each term a new rate and term will be determined. It may or may not be with the same supplier. With each subsequent supplier/rate/term change, all consumers who were previously in the Program will remain in the Program by default, but always have the option to Opt Out.

For comparison purposes, Eversource’s Residential Basic Service rate is fixed at $0.15845/kWh from January 1, 2024 through July 31, 2024. Basic Service rates change twice a year or more, depending on the rate class.

As a result, the aggregation rate may not always be lower than the Basic Service rate. The goal of the Aggregation is to deliver savings over the life of the Program compared to Eversource’s Basic Service. While such savings cannot be guaranteed, the first three years of aggregation helped Northfield residents achieve significant savings.
