‘Out of the Storm” documents how a Pocahontas County, West Virginia lumber company came to New England after the 1938 hurricane to clear fallen timber in Northfield MA. After the downing of a billion trees in the northeast, Northfield’s hurricane devastation offered opportunity to the hardworking lumbermen who found hard work, honest wages, and in some cases wives.
