General Information Sheet
The Northfield Recreation Commission (NRC) offers recreational activities primarily to the residents of Northfield but often inclue the other towns in the school district: Leyden, Warwick and Bernardston (Bernardston does have their own Commission). Most of our activities take place at Northfield Elementary.
We are a committee of five volunteers with a paid part-time Director plus a paid Recreational Attendant, and we offer Spring, Fall and Winter organized sports for kids ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to about 6th grade as well as many adult activities. (For kids in 7th through 12th grade, typically the middle school and high school offer sports for this age group and the Northfield Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities for those 55 and older).
NRC is part of the Tri-County League based out of Vernon, VT for organized (non-competitive but with tournaments) travel games in baseball (up to 3rd grade), soccer and basketball. A second travel league that the NRC is a part of, also named the Tri-County League (a competitive league), is strictly for the girls’ softball in the spring (3rd to 6th grade). Recently the NRC added a successful Cheerleading season to the mix and will often try new sports/activities/clinics for kids to try different activities. In addition, some of our adult activities include: Pickleball, Free pick-up sports that alternate during the seasons, Yoga/Pilates, Weight Room use at Pioneer, Dance Aerobics and more.
We also offer many special events that we alternate around such as trips to sporting events, free pool passes to the Vernon pool in the summer, tubing at Berkshire East, free XC skiing passes, and more.
Lastly, over the summer we typically offer a four-week summer program in July from 9am to 3pm for elementary school aged kids.
